Cinema Italian Style: Silver Ribbon in Hollywood to Gabriele Muccino

Gabriele Muccino attended the Cinema Italian Style and was awarded by Laura Delli Colli, the President of the National Union of Italian Film Journalists, with the Silver Ribbon for his film "The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith on October 10 in Los Angeles. Also the costume designer Milena Canonero was awarded by the famous American actor Andy Garcia at Cinema Italian Style for the film "marie Antoinette". So for the first time the Silver Ribbon Award moved from Italy to United States of America, in Los Angeles inside the prestigious Italian Festival. [link]

On 20 August at the Ancient Theatre in Taormina the unique concert in Italy of the American star Liza Minnelli. As she said in a press conference most of the part of this concert is a tribute to her godmother Kay Thompson, who was her guide both in her life and her long career. Tribute to Duke Ellington: the Swing Era

The Italian National Jazz Orchestra conducted by Gerardo Di Lella, music by Count Basie & Duke Ellington, is on Tuesday 14 August at the Ancient Theatre in Taormina.
The conductor Gerardo Di Lella graduated in piano and jazz music. He studied composition with Aladino Di Martino and Ysang Yun, arrangement with Bruno Tommaso and music for films with the Maestro Ennio Morricone. He furthered his studies in piano with: Enrico Pieranunzi, Franco D'Andrea, Mike Melillo and John Taylor. [link]

The String Ensemble of the Scala at the Ancient Theatre

Another important event at the Music section of the Taormina Art Festival under the artistic director Enrico Castiglione: The String Ensemble of the Scala will perform on the 7 August at the Greek Theatre. Made up of prestigious musicians from the Orchestra of Italy’s famous theatre, this formation has aroused great interest in the world of the Symphony both in Italy and abroad thanks to its new and surprisingly innovative musical style, which has been defined by the critics as being of ‘rare beauty’.
The musicians, sharing the common aim to achieve perfection of expression, will here perform compositions of extraordinary artistic value even if less known or rarely played and will offer the public a performance of the highest quality.

High expectation for "Médée" by Luigi Cherubini

There are high expectations for Luigi Cherubini’s Médée, an opera in three acts based on the tragedy by Euripides, to be performed on the 6th August in the “world’s great theatre”, the Greek Theatre, under the wise, passionate direction of Enrico Castiglione, the new artistic director of the Music and Dance section of this 2007 edition of Taormina Arte. Castiglione has always been interested in dramatic theatrical musicals with universal significance and in rediscovering forgotten and difficult works and with Cherubini’s Médée, musical score by François-Benoît Hoffmann, he has accepted a difficult challenge.

Alessandra Ferri's Farewell

After the great success of the Arturo Toscanini symphonic concert directed by Lorin Maazel and the triumph of Medea directed and staged by the new artistic director of the Music and Dance Section of Taormina Arte, Enrico Castiglione (18 minutes of uninterrupted applauses), the curtain will now go up on one of the most awaited for appointments of the theatre bill.
