Stephen Frears
Candidato all’Oscar nel 1990 per il film Rischiose abitudini, il rinomato regista britannico Stephen Frears debutta nel cinema nel 1972 con il film Gumshoe, interpretato da Albert Finney. Prima di dedicarsi al mondo dello spettacolo Frears ha studiato legge a Cambridge, nella sua natia Inghilterra. Ma in seguito è entrato a far parte del Royal Court Theatre di Londra, dove ha lavorato come assistente alla regia per Lindsay Anderson e Albert Finney. Nel cinema invece comincia a lavorare come aiuto regista di Karel Reisz. Ha diretto film come Le relazioni pericolose, candidato a ben sei premi Oscar, The Hi-Lo Country, con Woody Harrelson e Billy Crudup, Eroe per caso, con Dustin Hoffman e Andy Garcia, The Snapper, adattato dal testo dell’autore irlandese Roddy Doyle e interpretato da Colm Meany, e infine Mary Reilly, con Julia Roberts. Suoi anche My beautiful Launderette e Sammy and Rosie vanno a letto, entrambi prodotti da Tim Bevan.

Nominated for an Academy Award for The Grifters in 1990, renowned director Stephen Frears began his feature film career in 1972 with Gumshoe starring Albert Finney. A native of England, Frears studied law at Cambridge University before turning to the arts and became involved with London's Royal Court Theater. While there he served as assistant director to Lindsay Anderson and Albert Finney. He began working in the film industry as an assistant director to Karel Reisz.
Frears' diverse work include such films as Dangerous Liaisons, which earned six Academy Award nominations, The Hi-Lo Country, starring Woody Harrelson and Billy Crudup, Hero, starring Dustin Hoffman and Andy Garcia, The Snapper, starring Colm Meany and adapted from the work of Irish writer Roddy Doyle, and Mary Reilly, starring Julia Roberts. Among his other film credits are two produced by Tim Bevan, My Beautiful Launderette and Sammy and Rosie Get Laid.
