Il Festival di Venezia
del 1995 dove, con larghi consensi, presenta Guiltrip, segna il debutto
cinematografico di Gerard Stembridge. In precedenza Stembridge era conosciuto come uno dei
maggiori autori radiofonici (il satirico Scrap Saturday), televisivi (The truth
about Claire), e teatrali (Lovechild) d'Irlanda. La sua fama di autore e
regista creativo viene consolidata dalla brillante versione di A Comedy of Errors
presentata all'Abbey Theatre, e da lavori singolari come The Gay Detective.
Recentemente ha scritto la sceneggiatura di Ordinary Decent Criminal, diretto da
Thaddeus O'Sullivan con Kevin Spacey e Linda Fiorentino. Con Pat Murphy ha scritto a
quattro mani Nora, un lungometraggio sulla vita di James Joyce e Nora Barnacle,
interpretati da Ewan McGregor e Susan Lynch.

| Gerard Stembridge made
his feature film debut at the 1995 Venice Film Festival with his critically acclaimed Guiltrip.
Prior to Guiltrip, Stembridge had established himself as one of Ireland’s
leading writers, for radio (the influential satire Scrap Saturday), television (The
truth about Claire) and stage (Lovechild). His reputation as one of
Ireland’s most inventive playwrights and directors was further enhanced through his
acclaimed C&W version of A Comedy of Errors for the Abbey Theatre and through
original work such as The Gay Detective. More recently, he wrote the screenplay for
Ordinary Decent Criminal, directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan and starring Kevin
Spacey and Linda Fiorentino. He co-wrote the soon to be released Nora with Pat
Murphy, a feature about James Joyce and Nora Barnacle, starring Ewan McGregor and Susan
Lynch. |
